ZZ Top Vs John Lee Hooker Rock N' Roll jams to the end!!
My good-looking copyright case study is all about ZZ Top and John Lee Hooker and the goodness of Rock N' Roll.
In this jamming case study, Bernard Besman one of the people who helped out John Lee Hooker wrought his song called "Boogie Chillen" in his 80th year old state got a case of Deja vu when he heard ZZ Top's version called "La Grange." little that ZZ Top didn't know is that John and Bernard made there version shortly after the great WWII!!
In 1973 ZZ Top made their version "La Grange," showed up on their CD called "Tres Hombres," and it got ZZ Top there first Golden Album. Later on La Grange showed up on the CD "Best of ZZ Top." and finally on ZZ Top's greatest hit CD.
Well I know I mentioned in intro but it works here to, In 1991 Bernard was the head of a big music business called La Cienega Music, so Bernard went for it and brought ZZ Top to court for infringement of there song ""Boogie Chillen."" In 1996 the Judge dismissed part of the suit stating that the 1948 single and the 1950 remake was in the public domain.
The funny part was that ZZ Top recordings infringe on he 1970 version of "Boogie Chillen" was supposed to have been heard sometime in 1997.
I know after the final comment on the major part of a blog is supposed to be the concluding but I forgot something SUE ME!! My opinion is that if one of the songs got banned for copyrighting it wouldn't hurt me because they both got a good beat going on and I would listen to both of them no matter what would happened.
